Hello Make Up Lovers!
I’m back with PART 2 of my Sephora haul from the Halifax Grand opening.
I left you last time with the FRESH Sugar lip treatment in original.
Have you tried any of the products I picked up yet? Let me know by commenting on this post. Give me your thoughts.
As we continue with the last half of this post I delve a little deeper into color.
Up next is my Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box ($46). I have eyed this for a while now because of the bright flashy colors. I had heard that Urban Decay had great pay off for pigmentation (ie: from the actual pallet to your lid) and every time I had the opportunity to pick it up while at the Eaton Centre it was sold out.
I suppose I could have picked it up online, but where’s the fun in that?! So when I couldn’t pick it up while in Toronto, I settled for just the single shadow of Ransom, a beautiful deep velvety purple! I LOVE this shade for an outer v and crease when doing a super smokey purple eye! I find it gives really great depth for the smokey eye. It pulls in the other colors and is deep enough that you don’t have to use a black shadow if you don’t want to. Lets face it, not everyone can handle a black shadow for smokey eyes. Most black shadows don’t have the same pay off and when you do find one it tends to have fallout! Who wants that?! So I was thrilled to be at the grand opening knowing that the likelihood of me getting my hot little hands on it was high. This is a great way to sample some of the best colors by Urban Decay. Graffiti and Zero are two popular UD choices and it has my favorite, Ransom. Scratch is also very beautiful! Soft and shimmery! I have yet to play with all these lovely colors and will likely swatch them on my arm in the near future. This great color collection also comes with a little mini of Urban Decay Primer Potion, which is wonderful for travel if you don’t want to take your regular sized one with you or even a great sample if you’ve never tried it before!
While we are on Urban Decay, I also had the fortune of picking up the 15 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Pallet ($66). A limited edition set of shadows that features a few oldies and a couple of newbies. The 15 shadows come in a beautiful metal case that has the UD logo in purple jewels on the top. There is a beautiful filigree cut into the sides of the box which adds a touch of class and sophistication. This metal box is then placed in a soft purple velvet outer shell box, something seen before from Urban Decay. There were only 100 in the store at the grand opening. I doubt there are any or many left.
The back of the box says:
Opulent and sleek, this gun-metal filigree treasure chest holds 15 NEW (as never-seen!) shades in honor of Urban Decay’s big 15. Neutrals shimmer, brights hypnotize and darker hues lead high-impact depth. Lift the shadow tray to reveal a sumptuous velvet-lined compartment for your jewellery… or whatever else you’re hiding.
I have to say between the two pallets I purchased, this one may have more shadows, but the Deluxe Shadow Box was a better purchase. I still love the 15 pallet, but I find the payoff somehow isn’t quite up to UD standards. I haven’t played with this other than swatching in store (same as my deluxe shadow box) as I like to know what I’m touching and feeling before I buy, but I’m hoping I can make this work!
Now that we’ve made it through the prettiest of the haul, on to something for everyone!
That’s right, you read that correctly.
Something every make up lover should have in their collection, NARS blush in Orgasm($29). Yup. In Orgasm.
This color can be worn on virtually any skin tone. There are many out there who can wear it and a small percentage that can’t. I’ve been aching to get my hands on it for nearly a year. I discovered it when I decided to delve deeper into blushes and what they could do for my skin. If you use a matte blush under your cheekbone in an almost contour and then add a bit of shimmer at the backs of the apples of your cheeks very near your eye and up, onto the temple, it can open up your eyes, make them sparkle and thin out your face and make even the an ugly duckling look feminine and innocent.
This blush is a beautiful peachy pink color with just a touch of shimmer. It can be applied heavy or very soft depending on the look you are going for. I have a feeling this will be the blush I reach for on a regular basis. I know it has since I purchased it! I’ll likely wind up exploring what NARS has to offer in blushes now. I like how it can be layered and applied a bit different each time I wear it. This is a must for any blush wearer! If you don’t wear blush and think you might like to start, I suggest this first.
The second item in the previous two photographs is another Too Faced product called Prime and Poreless Powder($36). It is a translucent light weight powder which can be worn under or over foundation or simply on its own. I picked this up again as a recommendation from Brandy (as I was starting a new foundation regime) and it is a fantastic product! I find it super light and very translucent. It doesn’t alter the color of my foundation underneath at all. This powder is advertised as poreless. What exactly does that mean? It has a high-resolution and reflective quality that visually minimizes pores and fine lines (two things I am currently in constant battle with). A great tip with setting powder for those who want to know, after you apply your concealer and or corrector under the eye, take a fluffy dome eyeshadow brush and dip it in your setting powder and apply over top the product under the eye to set it before applying your foundation. This makes the product under the eye last longer and least likely to crease (though you have to find the right balance between the setting powder and concealer to prevent this further). This is truly a great product. I want to try some other setting powders, just to shop around, but feel as though I may come back to this. In the picture below, I have a swatch of the Too Faced Prime and Poreless powder on the left much heavier than it would be worn so that it would show up on camera. To the right is a swatch of the NARS Orgasm blush.
And lastly from Sephora, once you get all this makeup on, surely there must be an easy way to get it off? Well I needed some new wipes and once again the lovely Brandy was to the rescue. I can honestly say I wasn’t looking for any at Sephora and I’m not even sure how we got onto them, but she suggested the Ole Henriksen Truth To Go Wipes, designed for all skin types ($19 for a 30 pack).
All I can say is if there were ever a Holy Grail for simple make up remover wipes or even travel wipes for your purse or car, these wipes would be it. I don’t think I’ll ever look back! These have to be the most nourishing, non-oily, most fantastic smelling wipes I have I ever used! They are gentle cleansing wipes that are also age defying. This wipe gets in every nook and cranny on my face! Very cleansing removing every speck of dirt, grime and old make up. It feels ultra mild, but gets the job done without feeling oily. I have to say these have every great quality that the competition would ever boast about having, but fell short of.
One side of the wipe is fairly smooth, they other has bumps, but the cloth itself is very transparent and thin, but sturdy enough I can scrub and use my nails to get in around my nose piercing without tearing the cloth. It has a very distinct scent of oranges, which has to do with the vitamin c in the wipes themselves. A fun fact, there are a lot of natural ingredients in these! It’s marked as a Natural Sephora product! Here’s what’s NOT in the wipes which makes a great bonus and likely why they feel so great!
- Synthetic Dyes
I will definitely buy these again! Thanks Brandy for suggesting them. I am über in love with them!
And that’s it folks!
That is everything I purchased at the grand opening of the Sephora here in Halifax. I have had a chance to play a little with my purchases since my last haul update at the beginning of the week. I love my new MUFE foundation and am just waiting to see if there’s any long-term results (ie: breakouts, skin problems). As well as the Pores No More by Dr Brandt. It’s a wonderful primer and my face barely produces any excess oily throughout the day. Very controlling. It’s a nice change! Well worth the $50 in my books! The FRESH Sugar Lip Treatment is very nourishing. I love simple balms for my everyday wear. And the Too Faced Shadow Insurance is beautiful! Comparing with different finishes of shadows. Doing this as well with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. All in all if given the chance to do it over again, I’d do it again. $500 is a lot to blow on make up but I have a great base for my every day now. It’s something I don’t have to adjust to anymore and all of it feels very natural.
So if you’ve got some $$ to blow, try some of these products. If you don’t know where to start, comment below and I can send some recommendations. There are a few products I’ve purchased with this $500 I will never live without now and will recommend them to as many as I can.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my haul review. Please feel free to ask any questions and pass on anything you may have learned.
